Causes of Tendonitis/ Tendinosis

Tendonitis and tendinosis are both dysfunctions of tendons. These along with fascia are the 2 crucial structures that connect our muscles to our bones.

Tendons need to be both strong and flexible to accommodate the movements we put ourselves through on a daily basis. A balanced amount of good circulation, nutrition, hydration, exercise, and rest are the keys to keeping them well and functioning the way they should.

In extreme situations, usually brought about by sporting injuries, athletes may suffer from a torn tendon. This trauma is known to cause inflammation and pain, known as tendonitis. It is common for scar tissue to form as the healing process continues.

On the other hand, repetitive strain and chronic overuse can cause excessive breakdown within the tendon on a molecular level leading to the much more common problem of tendinosis. The major problem with tendinosis is that it does not cause inflammation thus leading to prolonged healing times.

Here is how our therapies can prevent or alleviate symptoms of both:

  • Strengthening ligaments around the joint
  • Increase flexibility & control in the affected area
  • Restore healthy tissue quality in both muscle and fascia
